WHAT ARE THE NEEDS?
ITEM has one and two week teaching opportunities in Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Romania, and India. Needed are professors and pastors with a love for teaching, an ability to develop and teach a course on a basic Bible college or seminary level and an ability to apply Biblical doctrine to pastoral practice. See below for a sample listing of needed courses.
WHAT WOULD I TEACH?
We need teachers in Systematic or Biblical Theology, Church Planting, Church History, Counseling, Eschatology, Homiletics, Hermeneutics, New Testament Introduction or Survey, Old Testament Introduction or Survey, Specific Books of the Bible, and Worship.
Recently ITEM has received permission to use in other locations some excellent teaching modules developed by reformed leaders in India. These modules include: Old Testament Introduction and Survey, New Testament Introduction and Survey, Biblical Theology, God and Man, Christ and Salvation, Living in Grace, Evangelism, Christ-Centered Preaching, Church Planting, Worship and Sacraments, Church History, Biblical Leadership, and Biblical Hermeneutics. Other courses are continuing to be developed. Instructors with ITEM are free to use these materials and to add their own touch as well.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
Normally, lecturers should have at least an M.Div. degree and must have the backing of their church council or session. They must hold unquestioningly to the historic doctrines of the Reformed faith as contained in the confessions of faith such as the Westminster Confession of Faith and Larger and Shorter Catechism, Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort, and The Belgic Confession. Lecturers are asked to invite their home churches, friends and others to support the cost of their ministry overseas.
WHAT IS THE COST?
The costs range from $1,500 to $3,000, depending on the country and length of stay. This cost covers round trip transport airfare, visas where required, in country and local transportation and all meals and lodging. Instructors are responsible to secure and possess a valid passport from their country of citizenship. Personal spending money is up to the instructor.
Through the gracious gift of some friends of ITEM, ITEM is now able to help instructors get to the field their first time by covering up to $1,500 toward the travel costs. All ITEM requests is that the instructor, if a pastor, request that his church begin supporting ITEM regularly by adding ITEM to its annual budget as soon as possible.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
•Personal and spiritual refreshment
•An expanded world view of what God is doing all over the world
•A way to open your congregation’s eyes to the needs and opportunities elsewhere
•A reinvigorated ministry at home
•Partnership between you and your church with another church and its leaders somewhere else in the world
•Friendships with new Christian brothers and sisters in other countries
•Opportunities to use your training, experience, and spiritual gifts to build God’s kingdom globally
•Discovering that God is bigger than you thought.
